In February alone, there have been five confirmed and three unconfirmed cases of self-immolation in Tibet. While in production we learned of the latest death by fire: Tamchoe Sangpo, a monk in his late 30s who was also a member of his monastery’s democratic management committee, a government-controlled body that the Chinese authorities rely on to control the monasteries. When you hear this report, the death toll could well be higher.

Our New Delhi correspondent Rebecca Novick speaks with International Tibet Network’s Executive Director Alison Reynolds about the current crisis on the Tibetan plateau and what you can do to help.

What do you think the international community should do about the situation? We’d love to see your comments in our discussion forum.
