In February alone, there have been five confirmed and three unconfirmed cases of self-immolation in Tibet. While in production we learned of the latest death by fire: Tamchoe Sangpo, a monk in his late 30s who was also a member of his monastery’s democratic management committee, a government-controlled body that the Chinese authorities rely on to control the monasteries. When you hear this report, the death toll could well be higher.
