Excerpt from the documentary about Tibet
China formally withdrew two Chinese films from the Palm Springs film festival in protest of the scheduled screening of a documentary about Tibet and the Dalai Lama. While Chinese officials told the festival’s director that the filmmakers themselves had decided to withdraw their state-financed works, it is widely believed that it is the state sending a message, rather than the individuals. That documentary about Tibet, “The Sun Behind the Clouds: Tibet’s Struggle for Freedom,” follows the Dalai Lama over a year through protests over the status of Tibet that were timed to coincide with preparations for the Beijing Olympics.
