Voices from the Inside

In the past, Tibetans in Tibet often had to rely on out­siders to tell their story, but these days, even within tight mon­i­tor­ing and cen­sor­ship con­trols, Tibetan blogs have become an impor­tant source of infor­ma­tion about what is going on in the minds of Tibetans.

Dechen Pemba moved to Beijing in 2006 to learn Chinese, and to see for her­self what life in China was like. During that time, she trav­eled to Tibet sev­eral times and got to know a num­ber of Tibetans liv­ing in Beijing before she was even­tu­ally deported back to London in July 2008, just before the Beijing Olympics. She now works for the blog trans­la­tion site High Peaks, Pure Earth.
