The 1959 uprising

against China’s takeover, which spread to sur­round­ing areas and ulti­mately led to the death of over 86,000 Tibetans. While the city fell around her, Dolma was just giv­ing birth to a baby girl. She came to the US in 1989 and is now a res­i­dent of Southern California. Pema Dhondup brings this report about what Dolma, now 81 years old, saw on those fate­ful days in March 1959.
