Fifty years ago, Tibet’s capital city of Lhasa was in turmoil. A massive popular uprising was in full swing

The 1959 uprising
against China’s takeover, which spread to surrounding areas and ultimately led to the death of over 86,000 Tibetans. While the city fell around her, Dolma was just giving birth to a baby girl. She came to the
US in 1989 and is now a resident of Southern California. Pema Dhondup brings this report about what Dolma, now 81 years old, saw on those fateful days in March 1959.
