Woeser
Woeser is a Tibetan writer and poet living in Beijing who powerfully combines the art of written expression with social criticism, and who continues to defy the Chinese government’s attempts at censorship. Scholar Robbie Barnett calls her “the poet who forgot to be afraid.” Her new collection of poetry, Tibet’s True Heart, has recently been published by Ragged Banner Press. Here’s one of her poems, “The Fear in Lhasa,” read by Wen Yan King, a 24-year-old Taiwanese American who was arrested in Tibet this summer.
